Burkina Faso

General Right to Vote
Constitution
(1997)

  • Article 12 states, “All citizens of Burkina Faso, without any distinction, have the right to participate in the affairs of the State and of Society. As such, they are eligible electors within the conditions provided under law.”
  • Article 33 states: "Voting directly or indirectly is exercised within the provisions of the law. Voting directly is always performed equally, secretively, and universally."

  • Article 44 states, “Should not be registered to the voter lists...3. Individuals who are severely mentally disabled or invalid; 4. Those who have been stripped of their civic and political rights.”

  • Article 162 states, “All citizens who are qualified electors may be elected to the National Assembly...”
  • Article 209 states, “Cannot be elected provincial councilors...persons deprived of voting rights.”
