Cameroon

General Right to Vote
Constitution:
(1996)
• Article 6, section (1) states, "The President of the Republic shall be elected by a majority of the votes cast through direct, equal and secret universal suffrage."
• Article 15, section (1) states, "The National Assembly shall comprise 180 (one hundred and eighty) members elected by direct and secret universal suffrage for a five-year term of office."

Exclusion Based on Mental Disability
Electoral Law:
(1997)
• Under laws governing election to Parliament and Presidency, Section 15 and Section 6, respectively, state "No person shall be entitled to have his name entered on a register of electors and, if so registered, to vote, who…(f) is an insane person or is of an unsound mind."

Exclusion Based on Physical Disability
Electoral Law:
(1997)
• Section 17 states: "No person shall be entitled to be nominated as a candidate for election to the National Assembly unless he…can read and write English or French.
