General Right to Vote
Constitution
(2001)

  • Article 63 states, “The House of Representatives consists of 301 members, who shall be elected in a secret, free and equal vote directly by the people.”
  • Article 64, section 1 states, “A voter must meet the following two conditions 1) Be a Yemeni national 2) Be not less than eighteen years of age.”

(1996)

  • Article 3 states, “All citizens who have attained 18 complete calendar years are entitled to vote except naturalized persons who have not completed the legal period provided for in the Nationality Law since acquiring Yemeni citizenship.”

  • Article 64, section 2 states, “A candidate for the House of Representatives shall must meet the following conditions...c. must be able to read and write (literate).”
