Best Practices
Sierra Leone
In June of 2001, IFES was invited by the National Election Commission of Sierra Leone to conduct an assessment on electoral access in preparation for May 2002 elections, and to make recommendations about how to better accommodate voters with disabilities. In May of 2001, IFES teamed with Action on Disability and Development in Ghana and the Sierra Leone Association of the Blind to pilot test a tactile ballot for blind voters, and to conduct a modest electoral observation effort. (Funded by IFES as part of grants from Finland, the United Kingdom, and the United States).
