General Right to Vote
Constitution:
(1973)
• Article 50 section (2) states: "The members of the People's Assembly are elected by general, secret, direct, and equal ballot in accordance with the provisions of the election law."
• Article 54 states: "Voters are citizens of at least 18 years of age who are listed in the civil status register and who meet the conditions specified in the election law."
Electoral Law:
(14 April 1973, updated 1994)
• Article 3 states: "The right to vote is enjoyed by every Syrian Arab citizen, whether male or female, who has attained the age of 18 years at the beginning of the year in which the election is held, unless he is deprived of this right under this legislative decree and existing legislations."

Exclusion Based on Mental Disability
Electoral Law:

• Article 4 states: "The right to vote is withheld from…(b) those who are mentally ill, during the period of their illness."
